Who we are

RentChitti is a free rent-management app for small Indian landlords, built and operated by an individual developer — not a company with a data-mining department. For anything in this policy, write to grievance@rentchitti.com.

The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work, it lives encrypted in AWS's Mumbai region, we never sell it, and you can export or delete it whenever you like.

What we collect

• Your account — the email and name you sign up with. If you use Google sign-in, Google shares your name and email with us; we never see or store your Google password.
• Tenant details — names, phone numbers and email addresses that landlords enter for their tenants.
• Rent records — rents, payments, deposits and expense entries you record.
• Documents — files (agreements, ID proofs, etc.) that users choose to upload.

That's it. No ad profiles, no browsing history, no contact-list scraping.

Where it lives

All data is stored in the AWS Mumbai region (ap-south-1) — records in DynamoDB and uploaded documents in S3, both encrypted at rest.

Optionally, each account owner can connect a Google Sheet backup. That spreadsheet is created in, and owned by, the account owner's own Google account — we mirror your data into it because you asked us to, and you can disconnect it at any time.

Who we share it with

Nobody. We never sell your data and never share it with third parties — the only place your data goes outside AWS is the Google Sheet backup you configure and own.

Payments

Rent is paid directly from tenant to owner via UPI or bank transfer. RentChitti only records that a payment happened — we never touch, process or store tenants' card numbers, bank credentials or UPI PINs. There is no payment gateway in the middle.

Cookies & sessions

Signing in stores a session token in your browser's localStorage so you stay logged in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no third-party analytics trackers.

Your rights

• Export — download all your data as CSV/JSON from the app, any time. (Your Google Sheet backup is a live export too.)
• Deletion — email us at grievance@rentchitti.com and we will delete your account and its data.
• Correction — you can edit your records in the app directly.

We aim to handle personal data in line with the spirit of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — collect little, protect it well, and delete it on request.

Tenants' data, landlords' duty

Landlords enter their tenants' details, so landlords are responsible for having a fair basis to record that information. Tenants who want their data corrected or removed can ask their landlord, or email us.

Children

RentChitti is a tool for landlords and their tenants. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect children's data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
